The day Crystal literally flew through his door, he nearly dropped the book in his hands. She reminded him of someone--a soul lost to time, or perhaps returned. Cosmo is a guardian of truth, a silent steward of what the world has tried to forget. And  late at night, when the bookstore sighs and the world is still,  an ancient manuscript, in a room beneath the stairs, begins to vibrate with secrets and longing when first  feeling Crystal's footsteps.

David Lange is a professor of ancient languages, a quiet scholar once revered for his unmatched ability to transcribe the forgotten tongues of civilizations long gone. But in his distant past, something fractured-a mysterious event that stole his memories and left him wandering the edges of his own life, haunted by dreams he couldn't explain. Vincent is no ordinary cat. With piercing emerald eyes that seem to see into other realms, he walks beside Claire and Crystal not as a pet, but as a guardian cloaked in mystery. His presence is regal, his movements deliberate, and when he speaks-which he does only when needed-his words carry the weight of lifetimes. Amin is a small, sharp-eyed Persian man with a whisper of magic always trailing behind him. Cloaked in mystery and old silk, he serves in David's grand home-not as a servant, but as an aide...though even that word feels too neat for what Amin truly is. He claims Zoroastrian lineage, and those who know such things sense the markings of a wizard-one who walks the thread between light and shadow with equal grace.  His ties to Crystal and Wyndon go deeper than he lets on, and he irritates Crystal's soldiers with his meddling. And yet, there's something about him-a flicker of loyalty, a hidden truth-that makes them hesitate before casting him aside.
